Mark was born in York in 1970, and had a passion for drawing from early age. He studied Visual Communications at Bradford University, leaving to become a pavement artist and progressed to painting cityscapes of his beautiful home town of York, which were subsequently produced as prints.
He is a self taught artist and his biggest influences are the Baroque School and the Impressionist Movement. His landscapes are worked in oil, acrylic, watercolour or pastel. Fascinated with the fast disappearing red telephone box, he painted the “Lost Connection” series, a tribute to this great British icon, which received much acclaim in the national press.
He has been privileged to be chosen twice as a Regimental artist for the British Army, for the Signal Regiment and for the Royal Artillery. Other corporate clients have included Nestle UK and GMB Unio
He was a finalist in the annual Art Business Today/ Canon competition.
In 2008, he was kindly invited by the owners of stately home, Newby Hall (location of recent film Mansfield Park), to produce a series of figurative drawings and paintings featuring the fantastic backdrop of the Hall. This work was exhibited in the Hall as a one man show in March and April 2008.
